Window sealant selection and construction guide
Selection of sealant
The selection of sealant for the gap between windows and walls depends on the size of the gap, the usage environment, and the material of the wall. Common types include silicone sealant, polyurethane sealant, and acrylic sealant.

  1. Silicone sealant: Strong weather resistance, UV resistance, good elasticity, suitable for most materials. However, it is difficult to remove after curing and cannot be painted.
  2. Polyurethane sealant: Strong adhesion, wear-resistant, suitable for various substrates. But it is sensitive to humidity and has a relatively long curing time.
  3. Acrylic sealant: environmentally friendly and odorless, can be painted. But the weather resistance is slightly poor and not suitable for long-term outdoor use.
  4. Butyl rubber: It has good adhesion and waterproof performance. But it has poor elasticity and is not suitable for seams that require movement.
    construction steps
The sealing construction of the gap between the window and the wall must follow the standardized process to ensure the sealing effect.
  5. Preparation: Clean the gap area to ensure that there is no dust, oil stains, or loose materials. Clean the old sealing material with a scraper or brush.
  6. Choose the appropriate glue gun: Select the appropriate glue gun according to the packaging of the sealant to ensure smooth operation.
  7. Glue application: Evenly squeeze the sealant into the gap to ensure it is fully filled. Use a scraper or dip your fingers in water to smooth out the adhesive surface, ensuring a smooth finish.
  8. Curing: Wait for complete curing according to the sealant instructions, usually taking 24 hours.
    Precautions
The sealing construction of the gap between the window and the wall should pay attention to the following points to avoid common problems.
  9. Construction environment: The recommended construction temperature is+5 ℃ -+35 ℃, with the optimal operating temperature being+18 ℃ -+25 ℃. Construction is not recommended below 5 ℃; The temperature resistance range after curing is 30 ℃ -+80 ℃.
  10. Gap size treatment: When the gap is less than 5 centimeters, foam glue can be used to fill it; When it is larger than 5 centimeters, a portion can be filled with bricks or cement first, and then reinforced and sealed with sealant.
  11. Material selection: It is necessary to choose silicone structural sealant with reliable brand, good weather resistance, strong resistance to UV aging and displacement.
  12. Construction quality: The gluing operation must be continuous, full, and without breaks, forming a uniform adhesive strip. The sealant between the outer frame and the wall is recommended to be used with a “crossing inside and outside” method, and the thickness of the sealant should not be less than 6 millimeters.
  13. Maintenance: Check the sealing of windows at least once a year and replace aging materials in a timely manner. Regularly clean the window frame to prevent dust and dirt from affecting the sealing effect.
